Shop With A Cop
Murphy’s Farm is proud to support Shop With A Cop (SWAC), an annual initiative that brings the community together in support of young students. 2022 will be our fifth consecutive year partnering with the Nottawasaga OPP, and our second with Canadian Tire Alliston. Together, we are raising funds and awareness for the community we love and the families that live here and support us.
We are thrilled at the chance to be able to give back during this special time of year. PLUS if you’ve ever been on the Farm during the holidays, you know our love for Christmas is strong… it was a perfect fit!
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Shop with a Cop is a community policing initiative that pairs fifth-grade students from schools in New Tecumseth with a police officer for a fun day of holiday shopping, gift wrapping and Christmas cheer as they pick out presents for themselves and their families. Officers make their way to all the schools and meet with the principals and teachers to let them know that they are looking for students who they feel will benefit most from this experience. It will be up to the individual school to select the participating student(s).
WHY “SHOP WITH A COP”?
On top of helping to give students and families in need a special Christmas memory, this program promotes a healthy relationship between young children and officers. Children often never get the chance to connect with the local OPP and it’s a great opportunity for them to build a relationship with each other in a positive way!
FUNDRAISING GOALS
Our intention is to support kids in every school across New Tecumseth, with an ambitious 2022 fundraising goal of $10,000 to ensure that we can support as many kids as possible and that each receives an adequate amount of money to cover their holiday purchases. We know that New Tecumseth schools are FULL of deserving kids and would love to be able to have even more students participate with each passing year!
HOW ARE WE RAISING MONEY?
Our fundraising efforts are year-round. With the partnership of the Nottawasaga OPP and Canadian Tire Alliston, we have been able to start collecting donations for our event with a checkout donation bin in the Market, as well as more donation bins and the sale of limited edition shortbread at all Canadian Tire cash registers. Beyond Murphy’s Magnificent Hay Bales and Fall Fest, we also look for new and existing opportunities to incorporate Shop With A Cop fundraising into our programming and promotions, including with our Christmas in July initiative and our annual Magical Christmas Market event.
